Type of Project:
Built in 1970's; Renovated/Expanded in 2013.
The Whetstone Condominiums are slopeside at the base of Crested Butte Ski Area, Mt. Crested Butte, Colorado.
Stand Out Features:
This renovation combined two Whestone Condo units into one, creating a space of 6 bedrooms and 6 1/2 bathrooms using predominantly reclaimed wood. The project was inspired by owner Casey Moran, who has been an icon of Crested Butte for many years (remember the "Manor Lodge" and "Casey's Bar"?). Casey realized that multiple family generations needed a place to stay when they came to Crested Butte, thus the birth of the Moran Condo. The condo sleeps 16 comfortably, with a livingroom for the kids and a separate livingroom downstairs. The engineer was Bob Williams of Gunnison, CO and the interior designer was kPd Designs of Crested Butte. The renovation included a massive fireplace, reclaimed oak floors, custom iron work throughout the unit, and large reclaimed beams. The renovation was featured in the 2013 issue of the Peak Magazine
This was an outdated building with a layout that had to be completely configured from two units into one. Structural and interior walls were designed to sleep as many as possible.
